PHLL Baseball and Softball Frequently Asked Questions

PHLL Season Parent Guide & FAQ

This page provides families with important information about registration, player assessments, division placement, and upcoming league events.

Our goal is to help parents understand the process and ensure  environment.

1. I completed online registration — what is the next step?

After completing online registration and payment, families must attend one of our in-person verification days.

  • During verification, you will:
  • Submit required documents
  • Complete player registration
  • Have your player sized for their uniform

2. I missed the verification days. What should I do?

PHLL will offer 1–2 makeup verification days, where you may still bring in paperwork and complete the process.

3. I registered late and missed all the verification days. How does my child get a uniform?

Please email us at [email protected], and we will coordinate document verification and uniform sizing.

4. What are Skill Assessments? Does my child have to attend?

Skill Assessments are for players ages 5–12 registered in the evaluation divisions.
Players are evaluated on:

  • Throwing
  • Catching
  • Fielding
  • Batting

Managers and board members conduct the evaluations after completing training.

We strongly encourage attendance. Assessments allow us to place players with others at similar skill levels to support growth, development, and safety.

5. What if my child misses or does not attend assessments?

If a player does not attend, placement will be based on:

  • Previous Spring division
  • Player age

They will be entered into the draft as a hat pick.

6. Why did I receive an email saying my player was moved to a division?

After assessments, scores are reviewed, and players are grouped with others at similar skill levels.
This may result in a division transfer to keep teams balanced and development-focused.

7. What do A, AA, and AAA mean?

Our divisions now progress as:

T-Ball → A → AA → AAA → Majors

These levels help bridge development between beginner and advanced play.
(See attached PDF for full division breakdown.)

8. Will my child play with much younger players?

Players are grouped primarily by skill level, not only age.
Age ranges help keep play safe, but evaluation results determine placement, so players develop with peers of similar ability.

9. I don’t agree with my player’s division placement. Can it be changed?

All placements are determined using assessment scores, age guidelines, and safety standards.
For fairness and team balance, we cannot move players based solely on preference.

10. What if my player truly needs to move after practices begin?

Managers may notify the league if safety or development concerns arise.
The board will review and evaluate before any change is made.

11. My player played up a division in Fall — why aren’t they placed there now?

Fall Ball is developmental.
Spring placement is determined by current assessment results and division eligibility.

12. What should we expect at assessments?

Players rotate through stations practicing the same skills worked on during winter clinics, so they feel comfortable and confident.

13. What is the Showcase Draft?

Managers observe all players within their division before drafting teams.
It also gives players a chance to meet others in their division.

14. What is Meet the Coach / Team Day?

Families attend at assigned times to:

  • Find their team
  • Meet coaches and teammates
  • Review season information
  • Get excited for Opening Day
